Barack Obama and AIPAC

I like Senator Obama. He has a wonderful presence. He speaks with eloquence and authenticity. He is a minority, and therefore might have some empathy for those who have a lesser political voice. He is not George W. or Hillary or John "flip-flop" McCain or Rudy "police state" Giuliani.

But, the kind of statements that Obama made to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), make me cringe. Either he is ignorant of the facts, another shill for the Israel lobby, or just doing some dishonest political pandering. Here are some of those statements:

"We must preserve our total commitment to our unique defense relationship with Israel by fully funding military assistance and continuing work on the Arrow and related missile defense programs. This would help Israel maintain its military edge and deter and repel attacks from as far as Tehran and as close as Gaza."

In regards to the Palestinian power share:

"This should concern us all because it suggests that Mahmoud Abbas, who is a Palestinian leader I believe is committed to peace, felt forced to compromise with Hamas. However, if we are serious about the Quartet's conditions, we must tell the Palestinians this is not good enough."

Oops! Wasn't Hamas democratically elected? What about the extremist Zionist regimes? They were democratically elected as well. Shouldn't we tell Israel, "This is not good enough?"And then this:

“But in the end we also know that we should never seek to dictate what is best for the Israelis and their security interests. No Israeli prime minister should ever feel dragged to or blocked from the negotiating table by the United States.”

C'mon Barack! This is more of the same. Every Israeli prime minister should feel "dragged to" the negotiating table. EITHER YOU NEGOTIATE A FULL WITHDRAWAL FROM ILLEGALLY OCCUPIED TERRITORY, OR THERE IS NOTHING TO DISCUSS! AIPAC is widely known as the most powerful foreign interest lobby in Washington. They have a lot of muscle and influence. It actually might even be a necessity to have these cats in your corner to win the presidency, which says a lot about how much foreign governments can hold sway over our political system. As long as we support Israel blindly, without condemning them for indiscriminate attacks or flagrant theft of land beyond their legal international borders.

Until we get a leader who has the guts to condemn the Israeli terror regimes, as well as the American imperialists, we will continue to see the demise of Rome in a contemporary context.

As a side note. We should also be hearing harsh condemnation of all the other autocratic terror regimes that are in power because of U.S. backing, eg. Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, or the terror cells that we are working hand in glove with to hit targets within Iran.

Will Obama have the moral courage to stand up to these thieves and butchers? Somehow I think as long as you belong to the greater corporatocracy (Democrats and Republicans), you will have your hands tied.
