Didn't he speak at Liberty University (I know....but just for argument)? This rhetoric reminds me of that song I used to sing when I was 5. I would have loved McCain when I was 5. The "shoot the artillery" part was awesome!! I loved pretending like I was firing a howitzer into the sky......YEEHAW!!! War used to be soooo cool! Especially when paralleled to one's spiritual life. Incredible how important bloodlust is for societal motivation:

Is the "Surge" really working?

Articles titled "Military Success, Political Failure" are seemingly everywhere. But other than military and Bushco rhetoric, what real proof do we have that the "Surge" is working?

The article starts out: "The good news from Iraq is that the surge led by Gen. David Petraeus seems to be working."

Well, that's of course the official line from Washington and the military. And why should we believe a single word they say? Let's look at their track record:

HOLTSCHNEIDER SIDES WITH FATHER OF DECEPTION DERSH

The debate was over whether Norman Finkelstein, son of holocaust victims and strident critic of Israel, should get tenure at DePaul. All the credible authorities were backing him, but one little societal cancer rose up from his own bile and blocked it. Alan (Father of Deception) Dershowitz.

Guess who won this battle? Facts and logic or intimidation and lies? Not Oxford's Avi Shlaim or preeminent holocaust scholar Raul Hilberg. Nope, Harvard chief prevaricator Dershowitz! Guess who played an integral part in getting O.J. Simpson off the hook? Dershowitz again. Do you think he did any lying to get that case to go his way? What makes you think his "Case for Israel" would be any different? If your back is against the wall and you need someone to cloud the logic and distort the facts, just open up your wallet and give Dersh a call.

And this little spinster keeps seducing or scaring others into his web of lies and deception. His latest little pawn is none other than DePaul University president "Father" Dennis Holtschneider. A weak-willed priest who doesn't have the spiritual or intellectual courage to be a retail manager. After all the lies that Dershowitz has propagated about the Middle East, lies well documented by Professor Norm Finkelstein and Noam Chomsky, this Holtschneider character still doesn't have the integrity to do the right thing. He should either repent for building barriers to truth, or be defrocked by the powers that be. Dershowitz and his AIPAC/Anti-Defamation League thugs will continue to lie, cheat, and steal until people with some guts stand up and confront them. Finkelstein has done this, and done it very well I might add. As is testament to the support given him by Avi Shlaim and Raul Hilberg. And let me reiterate the point from my previous post. In one corner you have Avi Shlaim, Raul Hilberg, and Noam Chomsky. In the other corner you have Dershowitz. "Father" Holtschneider turned his back on the facts and strength of support to side with Dersh because he was intimidated by what he and his rapacious goons would do to him. That's called self preservation, and it flies in the face of New Testament principles. Holtschneider should resign immediately. A university can hardly be run by a spineless "father" who is easily influenced by an evil as abject as Dersh, father of prevarication.

McCain's Reading List

Because I'm too lazy at the moment, I've decided to paste this little piece from Chris Kelly over at the Huffington Post. I don't agree with it 100%. I don't agree with his belief that McCain was a hero. As Tim O'Brien wrote in The Things They Carried, "I survived, but it's not a happy ending. I was a coward. I went to war." I'm just not sure whether or not I think it's heroic to fight on the side of imperialism in an illegal war. I mean, should German soldiers, fighting for the Nazi regime be remembered for their heroism? I'd rather we stigmatized it as cowardice so that the same crimes aren't repeated. But regardless, interesting take on McCain's reading list and subsequent comments about Hemingway.

And I'll copy and paste it below. Isn't it funny how logic goes right out the window for those who simply don't care about truth? I harken back to the way they managed to paint John Kerry as a cowardly vietnam swiftboater when Georgie Porgie didn't even leave Stateside. Of course the assault on logic is a very basic orwellian concept. A practice well exploited by Rove and his spinster underlings. And now we have to listen to a douche like McCain marginalize the bravery and service of Ernest Hemingway? These ambitious bastards are so smart and stupid at the same time. Stupid because what they say is pure drivel. Smart because they know it's drivel and that Americans have never been taught how to think critically. This would also explain the hype for books like The DaVinci Code, a bestseller, which, as far as I could tell by reading the first chapter, was written with 4th graders in mind. But they remain in power, which ultimately speaks to the sheep-like obeisance of a zombified electorate.

Here's what you have to admit about John McCain: That's not a stupid list. Three classics, one semi-classic, one obscurity. Two novels, three histories. The author of the obscure one politically reliable, the other four securely dead. Not one of them Battlefield Earth.

Here's the spooky thing about McCain: Out of the entire literature of men and arms, he's chosen five books, all of them told from the side of the losers. The Republicans in Spain, the Germans in World War One, the French in Vietnam, the Americans in Korea, the Romans everywhere. It's not important to McCain what you're fighting for, just as long as you're trounced. No wonder he loves Iraq.

And here's the nettlesome thing about McCain: He's an actual hero - he suffered heroically -- but he talks like one of those hateful legion hall blimps who strongly believe no one who wasn't in their platoon really served. Here:

Hemingway's not a real veteran because ambulance drivers don't count. (Even if they get blown up.) And neither does fighting in Spain. Or sub-hunting with a dopey sailboat. Or being in a landing craft on D-Day. Or liberating Paris. If Papa's so tough, why didn't he bomb Vietnam from an airplane? If John McCain thinks Hemingway isn't a real veteran, how can he hug George W. Bush?

It's almost like he's crazy.

IF YOUR KIDS GOING GANG STAR, CONSIDER THESE WARNING SIGNS

I came across this on the Elkhart County Anti-Gang website. Just in case you were wondering if your kid is a ganster, please be on the lookout for these warning signs!

1) Admits to "hanging out" with kids in gangs.
clinton- Yep, if your kid says that they are "hanging out" with kids in gangs, you might want to consider the possibility that they too are hanging out in gangs. On the other hand, if your kid admits to "hanging out" with kids who play Dungeons and Dragons, you might want to consider the possibility that they too are playing Dungeons and Dragons.

2) Shows an unusual interest in one or two particular colors of clothing or a particular logo.
clinton- Let me elaborate on this point. If your kid is a boy and he only wears red, has one pant leg rolled up, and wears a "Tupac" bandana....he's gangbanging or a poser. If he wears pink everyday, he's probably not in a gang.

3) Has an unusual interest in gangster-influenced music, videos, movies or websites.
clinton- If he's watching movies like Boyz in da Hood, he might be a little bit put off by the "Gangs Totally Suck" message. If he's watching Goodfellas or Casino, he's probably just going to start saying the "F" word a whole bunch.

4) Uses unusal hand signals to communicate with friends.
clinton- Either he's in a gang, or he's been deaf all along and you're just a really bad parent.

5) Has specific drawings or gang symbols on school books, walls or tattoos.
clinton- It might just be an ink tear. He's not emo and depressed after all.

6) Comes home with unexplained physical injuries.
clinton- "Were you in a gang-related fight son?"

7) Has unexplained cash or goods, such as clothing or jewelry.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest that if you need this list to determine whether or not your child is involved in gang activity, you probably shouldn't be procreating. You're probably not fit to raise a hamster let alone a human being.

Conservatism and Comedy....Qubetv?

Whether or not you're a conservative, liberal, moderate, capitalist, communist, utopianist, hegelian, jacobite, etc..., right wingers just can't seem to make humor work for them. I'm pretty sure that there is a strong enough contingent of socially awkward recluses, or annoying Alex P. Keaton types who would really get a kick out of some of the material. Which is why it exists. However, it's so unfunny that it's cringe-worthy, and it is typical of the "take my ball and go home" mentality of the perpetually martyred right wing. Take Conservapedia, the Fox version of the Daily Show, etc. And of course there's Rush Limbaugh(his comic relief guy Paul Shanklin)....who's just a real racist hoot. Either way, there's a new craze sweeping the conservative nation, and it's their answer to Youtube called Qubetv, and OH MAN IS IT HILARIOUS!! It's just so damn clever the way they use photoshop! In all seriousness though...it appears comedy and the right are mutually exclusive.....so far at least. I wouldn't hold your breath either.

POINTING OUT THE OBVIOUS

Newt Gingrich will be giving this year's commencement address at Jerry Falwell's Liberty University. Because of the fact that I attended Liberty my freshman year of college, this news, in light of recent confessions by Newt of an affair, peaked my interest. Here's my take:


1. During an interview with James Dobson about a month ago Gingrich said this about the Lewinsky scandal, to sort of....justify his apparent duplicitousness:

The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge. I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials.

This is hypocrisy on a sickening level. Why? Because to accuse Clinton of breaking the oath he gave to a federal judge, while breaking the oath of marriage, which I last heard was an oath to God, is abominable. Basically, Gingrich is saying, "I was breaking my oath to God, and that was wrong, but Clinton broke his oath before a federal judge, which I couldn't stand for." From a right-wing Christian viewpoint, let's look at a similar scenario. Falwell's ilk believe that adultery is a sin which, without Christ's forgiveness, condemns your soul to hell. The same thing goes for murder. Let's say Gingrich murdered somebody. Let's say Clinton murdered somebody. Let's say Clinton got caught and lied about it under oath. Now Gingrich goes after him because, even though he knew he was wrong for commiting murder himself, he couldn't let Clinton get away with breaking his oath before a federal judge. So the murder (adultery) in the sight of God was of secondary importance. In other words, "it was absolutely necessary to do my duty as a public servant on earth, but not absolutely necessary to uphold my commitment to my wife and God."

And Gingrich will be speaking at Liberty this spring. Ironically, their motto, the flame, is quite an ironic label for a group who professes to be holding the light of truth whilst burning fires of hypocrisy. I wonder if they will be holding this memorable commencement ceremony in the basketball arena.....or as it was know when I attended, THE CAULDRON.
